As a new pretender to the throne of modern travel apps, Rail.Online are aiming squarely at toppling the current King, Trainline. An on-the-nose strategy with punchy copy highlighting the simplicity of their offer - undercutting their competitors with a zero-fees policy - needed a punchy presentation to match and grab the attention of busy travellers.
Creative Director James and I set about creating the most concise version of the copy, and then I was left to develop concepts for the ads themselves. Using classic train travel tropes, a different one to suit each of the ads’ proportions, I developed an illustration and animation style that evolved their visual brand language whilst being charming but punchy.
The style I developed on this project was also rolled across further assets including the homepage banner and other campaign touchpoints.
